Step 1: Preparation
Before you start replacing the inner workings of the faucet thermostat, it is important to see what brand of faucet you have and after that what series of faucet it is to find the right inner workings. Once you have found and ordered this, then after this you can take the following steps to make the faucet again. It is important before you begin to shut off the water supply to the faucet. You can do this by closing the main valve (usually in the crawlspace or meter cupboard).

Step 2: Disassemble the old thermostat
To gain access to the inside of the thermostat, you first need to remove the knobs and any decorative cover plates. These can usually be easily unscrewed or unbolted. Then, using a screwdriver or Allen wrench, you can disassemble the faucet thermostat. Be careful not to damage any parts when doing this.

Step 3: Replacing the inside
With the old thermostat disassembled, you can now replace the inner workings. Make sure you have a new interior that is suitable for your type of faucet. Insert the new inner work in the same way as the old one and make sure everything is tight. Grease the rubbers of the new thermostat so that the do not dry out and leak.

Step 4: Installing the new thermostat
After the new thermostat is installed, you can reassemble the thermostat faucet. You do this by replacing the knobs and any decorative cover plates and tightening them securely. Make sure everything is properly assembled before proceeding.

Step 5: Testing and checking
Now that everything is back together, you can reopen the water supply and check that the faucet thermostat is working properly. Turn on the faucet and check that the water comes out at the right temperature when you turn the thermostat knob. If everything is working properly, you're done!
Should the knob not stop at the correct temperature, snap the thermostat knob onto it at a different position so that the little arrow on the knob displays the correct temperature.

In short, if you find that the inside of your faucet thermostat is broken, you don't have to immediately call in a professional or buy an entirely new thermostat faucet. With a few simple steps, you can replace the thermostat yourself and make sure that your faucet is working smoothly again.
